Building a World-Class Trail System in Greater Cincinnati: CORA’s New Mission, Vision, and 5-Year Plan
Greater Cincinnati is home to a thriving community of hikers, mountain bikers, and runners, and CORA (Cincinnati Off-Road Alliance) is ready to take it to the next level. We’ve restated our mission and vision to reflect our bold commitment to building a world-class trail system in Greater Cincinnati, and we’re setting our sights on completing that vision within the next five years.
Our Mission & Vision, Refined
CORA’s mission:
To bring to life a sustainable, world-class trail system in Greater Cincinnati, contributing to the joy, health, and well-being of our neighbors.
CORA’s vision:
To become one of the top community trail systems in the country.
We believe Greater Cincinnati can, and should, be known nationally for its exceptional bike trails, inclusive trail access, and trail-forward community design.
What Makes a Trail System “World-Class”?
When we talk about a world-class trail system, we’re talking about much more than miles of dirt. We’re talking about trails that are:
✅ Accessible Trails:
Our trails are designed to connect our communities together. Parking, restrooms, and easy-to-navigate trailheads are essential. From parking lots to bike repair stations, clear signage, water access, and even interpretive features, our trails aim to serve all trail users.
✅ Multi-Use:
Our trails are for mountain bikers, hikers, runners, adaptive cyclists, and even one-wheel riders, with thoughtful design that supports coexistence.
✅ Well-Crafted and Terrain-Responsive:
Sustainable construction that flows with Greater Cincinnati’s natural topography, offering fun, challenge, and scenic value.
✅ Future-Ready:
CORA’s trail systems will adapt to emerging trail uses and technologies, including e-assist and community-supported features.
Inspired by the Nation’s Best Trail Systems
As we build our trail network, we look to the best bike parks and trail systems in the country for inspiration, including:
Bentonville, Arkansas – A national leader in urban-integrated bike infrastructure, Bentonville sets the standard with accessible, adaptive-friendly trails, art-filled greenways, and progressive bike parks, all seamlessly woven into the city.
✅ Why it matters for us: Bentonville shows how trail systems can thrive when they’re designed to be part of daily life, not just destinations.
Knoxville Urban Wilderness, Tennessee – A model for in-town trail connectivity, Knoxville Urban Wilderness features 50+ miles of trails accessible across the south side of the city, with a strong focus on community use and beginner-friendly design.
✅ Why it matters for us: Knoxville proves that trails can coexist with city life, inviting more people outdoors, more often.
These systems set the bar, and we believe Greater Cincinnati can join them.

Greater Cincinnati Trails, Built for Everyone
CORA is building a future where bike trails in Cincinnati are known across the country. With your help, we’ll create a trail-forward, sustainable, and nationally recognized trail system that brings joy, health, and pride to our region.
Connecting neighborhoods through a seamless trail network transforms our region into a vibrant, active community. Here's why it matters:
Community Integration
Trail connectivity fosters a sense of unity. By linking neighborhoods, parks, and recreational areas, we create accessible spaces that encourage outdoor activities and social interaction. This interconnectedness promotes a healthier, more engaged community.
Empowering All Riders
Bike parks and skills courses serve as essential training grounds for cyclists of all levels. They provide a safe environment for beginners to learn and for seasoned riders to hone their skills. This inclusivity ensures that everyone, regardless of experience, can enjoy the benefits of cycling.
Health and Wellness
Regular access to trails and bike parks encourages physical activity, which is crucial for maintaining cardiovascular health, building strength, and improving mental well-being. These spaces offer opportunities for exercise in a natural setting, enhancing overall quality of life.
Economic Boost
Investing in trail connectivity and bike parks stimulates local economies. These amenities attract visitors, support local businesses, and increase property values. A well-developed trail system can position Greater Cincinnati as a destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Environmental Sustainability
Trails provide eco-friendly transportation options, reducing reliance on cars and lowering carbon footprints. By promoting accessible trail systems, we contribute to cleaner air and a more sustainable environment.
